Thanks, But No Thanks

Very well then, Fairy Godmother
Transform me if you will
Envelope me in satin flounce
Embellish me in frill
Sweep my hair up gracefully
Dust powder on my nose
Paint my lips in romance-red
WAIT!
              What on earth are those?
So cold and hard and pointy
And is that a four-inch heel?
I’d like to dance the night away
With toes that I can feel!
And tell me, are they shatter-proof
Or double-glazed, at least?
A shard of shoe right through my sole,
Now, that would be a beast
Please take this foolish footwear
Return it to the box
I shall go to the ball tonight…
But I shall wear my Crocs.
