The Rock Pool

Within the rock pool by the sea
A tiny world blooms just for me:
A galaxy of rocks and star-
Fish, crabs that scuttle, spin and spar,
And dart to settle just beyond
The shadow of the seaweed fronds.
Upon the surface, smooth and pale,
I see reflected birds that sail,
And bobbing pines, and clouds afloat –
A fleet of wild celestial boats.
These distant worlds of sky and sea
Unite within the pool and me.
