At the back of the boxcar, something small and almost human crouched in the dimness. The creature wasn’t in a cage. Whenever Henry’s father locked this animal behind bars, it screeched so loudly that Henry begged for it to be let out.
AJ Sterkel graduated magna cum laude from the University of Colorado with a BA in English literature. She has a post-BA certificate in publishing from Western State Colorado University and a MFA in writing for children and young adults from Spalding University. In the past, she has served as an editor for Copper Nickel Literary Journal, The Louisville Review, and the Manifest West anthology series. Currently, she runs the book blog Read All The Things!
