"As the daughter of immigrant parents from China, visiting family in Asia has always been a strange yet touching experience. Growing up in Canada, I have never called China my personal home, yet I feel an intrinsic tie with the nation, along with a fascination with the juxtaposition of deep-rooted ancestral traditions and rapid modernization taking place in the country. With my poem "Plum Tea", I hope to capture these sentiments and encapsulate the feeling of being a "visitor" in one's familial home."

Plum Tea

Her voice, gently rattling
like a bamboo thicket in the breeze—
greets me as I step over the threshold.
Xiang si ni le:
“I’ve missed you to death.”
