Miriam Bat-Ami

Dr. Miriam Bat-Ami is a retired Western Michigan University professor who taught children's literature. She published five works. The YA book TWO SUNS IN THE SKY won the Scott O'Dell award. Bat-Ami loves the magical. When she was a child, she lived next to an old woman. At night, Miriam saw her rocking and knitting. This older woman had a dollhouse behind her home. It was curtained so Miriam never saw inside, but she imagined the doll and the chair. Bat-Ami also loves to swim in Lake Michigan and hike through the forest where there are always new things to find. At one time or another, her family has had dogs, cats, guinea pigs, mice, chickens, and horses. Cantering is like flying close to the ground. At present, Bat-Ami has a dog and a cat. The cat is named Merlin. He knows how to mysteriously disappear and appear.

Flight

Somewhere inside herself, the singular woman had begun drawing patterns of long-ago flights. Every fall, without looking, she knew when the geese left their breeding grounds.
