I WISH

I wish that I could chase a cloud and lasso it with stars.

I wish that I could skim the sky and keep its blue in jars.

I wish that I could sip the sun that shines on browning bark.

I wish that I could fill a room like cat’s eyes in the dark.

I wish that I could braid a belt of roses for my waist.

I wish that I could scoop a cone of dawn-peach for a taste.

I wish that I could stir a spoon of birdsong in a bowl

I wish that I could weave a wave of petals for my soul.

I wish that I could stack a stair that climbs straight to the moon

And there I’d wait with love and care for you to join me soon.
