Amy Losak is a healthcare media relations consultant. In 2018, her mother Sydell Rosenberg’s picture book, H IS FOR HAIKU, was released by Penny Candy Books. It was honored in 2019 by the National Council for Teachers of English as a “Notable Poetry Book.” Amy wrote the introduction and Sawsan Chalabi did the illustrations. In 2022, Kelsay Books released their collaborative collection, WING STROKES HAIKU. Each poem has a direct or indirect connection to winged things. And in 2020, Kattywompus Press released Syd’s mostly haiku chapbook, POISED ACROSS THE SKY. Many of the poems have an urban sensibility. Amy also is a proud member of The Book Meshuggenahs: women who write, illustrate and are “crazy” about children’s books. Syd, a New Yorker, was a charter member of the Haiku Society of America in 1968. Amy is a member today. Thanks to Syd’s influence, Amy enjoys writing poetry that captures “small” moments in our daily lives and makes them “big.”
